Transforming clinical listening through digital design.
As the Senior Product Designer, I redesigned the Stethee Pro mobile experience by improving critical clinical workflows including onboarding, device connection, sample recording, and patient management.
My goal was to transform a complex hardware and software ecosystem into a simple, reliable, and confident clinical workflow.
Project Context & Ecosystem
Stethee is an AI-enabled stethoscope system that captures, amplifies, and streams live heart and lung acoustic data via Bluetooth across three target platforms:
Problem Statement & Challenges
Creating a better experience for a complex medical device
As Stethee Pro evolved, the mobile application needed to support a more reliable and intuitive clinical workflow.
The existing experience had several usability challenges:
Outdated visual design
Confusing onboarding
Limited device feedback
Unclear Bluetooth states
Recording experience lacked visibility
Patient management required unnecessary effort
The challenge was not only improving the interface, but helping healthcare professionals feel confident while using a new medical technology.

To support continuous product evolution, I created the Pulse Design System.
It introduced reusable components, consistent patterns, and a scalable UI foundation that allowed Stethee Pro to evolve faster and maintain consistency across different workflows.

Redesigning Onboarding
From a form-heavy setup to a guided first experience
The Problem
The original onboarding focused on completing setup rather than helping users understand the product and feel confident using it.
Users experienced:
Long, form-heavy setup
Unnecessary error messages
No introduction to Stethee
Unclear next steps
Device connection mixed with authentication
The Design Approach
I redesigned onboarding around progressive guidance, clarity, and user choice; helping users experience Stethee first without forcing them through account setup.
01 Experience Stethee before login
Users can connect Stethee and use Quick Listen before creating an account. They only need to sign in when they want to save and manage samples.
Design principle:
Let users experience the value before asking for commitment.
02 Guide users through setup
Instead of presenting a large setup process at once, I broke it into smaller, purposeful steps and introduced information progressively.
Redesigned onboarding flow
Create Account → Setup PIN → Tutorial → Ready to Record
Outcome
The redesigned onboarding created a more guided and less frustrating first-time experience.
Clearer setup: Users understand what to do at each stage.
More choice: Users can experience Stethee before creating an account.
Less friction: Unnecessary interruptions and confusing setup steps were reduced.
Validated with users: Healthcare users completed the setup more easily and with less frustration.

Simplifying Stethee Pairing
From an unclear technical process to a guided device experience
The Problem
The previous connection experience gave users limited feedback about what was happening with their Stethee.
Users struggled with:
Knowing whether Stethee was connected
Understanding connection failures
Finding device information
Knowing when headphones could be connected
The Design Approach
I redesigned the connection experience around clear device states, contextual guidance, and visible feedback.
The goal was to make users understand what is happening, what state Stethee is in, and what they should do next.
01 Make connection states visible
Instead of leaving users uncertain about the connection, I designed clear states throughout the pairing process.
Redesigned connection flow
Searching → Device Found → Connecting → Connected → Ready to Record
Each state provides clear visual feedback and an appropriate next action.
02 Surface device information
Once connected, important device information is no longer buried within settings.
Users can immediately see:
Stethee connection status
Battery level
Device readiness
Access to Stethee settings
Design principle:
Make important device information visible when users need it, rather than making them search for it.
03 Make headphone connection contextual
The previous experience allowed users to attempt headphone connection even when Stethee was not connected, which could result in confusing error messages.
I redesigned this interaction so headphone connection becomes available only after Stethee is connected.
New approach:
Stethee connected → Stethee Settings → Connect Headphones → Connection Status
This makes the action more contextual and removes an unnecessary failure scenario.
Outcome
The redesigned connection experience made hardware interaction more understandable and predictable.
Clearer status: Clearer status: Users can immediately see whether Stethee is connected and ready.
Better guidance: Connection issues provide clearer direction instead of generic errors.
Easier device management: Battery and device settings are accessible from the main experience.
Contextual actions: Headphone connection is available only when it is relevant.
Validated with users: Healthcare users found the connection and headphone controls easier to locate and understand.

Improving Sample Recording
From a functional recording flow to a clearer, more informative experience
The Problem
The existing recording workflow was functional, but the interface had become visually outdated and didn't provide enough feedback during sample capture.
Users needed:
Better visibility of recording status
More information while capturing a sample
Clearer access to recording controls
A more engaging and modern interface
The Design Approach
Rather than changing a familiar clinical workflow, I focused on making the existing process clearer, more informative, and easier to interact with.
The redesign brought important information and frequently used actions directly into the recording experience instead of hiding them inside menus.
01 Keep the workflow familiar
The core process remained straightforward.
Recording flow
Select Patient → Prepare Recording → Capture Sample → Review → Save
The goal was not to add complexity, but to improve the experience at each stage.
02 Improve recording feedback
During recording, users now receive more immediate visual feedback about what is happening.
Key improvements
Live waveform: Provides visual feedback while the sample is being captured.
Recording timer: Makes the recording duration immediately visible.
Sample information: Provides more context about the captured recording without requiring users to navigate elsewhere.
Visible controls: Frequently used actions are surfaced directly within the recording interface.
03 Make actions easier to find
Previously, some actions required users to look through menus. I redesigned the interface to make important actions more discoverable while keeping the overall UI clean.
Users can more easily access actions such as:
Pause / Resume
Review
Add notes
Save
Re-record
Delete
Outcome
The updated recording experience made sample capture more informative and visually engaging without changing the familiar clinical workflow.
Better feedback: Users can see the recording progress through waveform and timing.
Improved visibility: Important sample information is available within the main experience.
Easier controls: Common actions are easier to discover.
More engaging UI: The updated interface provides a more modern and focused recording experience.
User feedback: Healthcare and research users found the new experience more pleasing, informative, and easier to navigate.

Improving Patient Management
From a difficult-to-navigate file structure to a clearer patient and sample experience
The Problem
As the number of patients and recorded samples grows, healthcare professionals need to quickly find the right patient and access their history.
The previous experience made this difficult because of:
Limited information organisation
Difficult record discovery
Poor visibility of sample history
Limited ways to search and narrow down records
The Design Approach
I redesigned patient management around clear information hierarchy, discoverability, and efficient access to clinical records.
Rather than presenting all patient information at once, I structured the experience so users can progressively move from the patient list to the specific information they need.
